March of the Whistleblowers
Our campaign calls on members of the public, MPs, unions, and advocacy groups to back the Bill, which aims to overhaul whistleblower protections in the UK.
Without urgent reform, whistleblowers will continue to be silenced, victimised, and ignored, while corruption and misconduct go unchecked.
The campaign is driven by real cases of whistleblowers who have lost their jobs, suffered retaliation, and seen concerns buried. From NHS scandals to corporate fraud and public sector failures, whistleblowers often face devastating consequences.
"Right now, the system is stacked against whistleblowers," said Georgina Halford Hall, CEO of WhistleblowersUK . "Employers can retaliate, regulators fail to act, and those who speak up are left fighting alone. The Whistleblowing Bill is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to fix this broken system."
You can help us, and everyone brave enough to speak truth to power, by:
Signing the petition calling on Parliament to pass the Bill.
Emailing your MP to demand they support stronger whistleblower protections.
Joining the movement on social media - follow us on LinkedIn and X and help spread the word about the work we do.
"Without this Bill, whistleblowers will continue to suffer in silence, and the public will continue to pay the price," Georgina added. “If you care about truth, justice, and accountability, now is the time to act. We must stand together to protect those who speak up.”
We're on the countdown to the second reading of the OfficeOfTheWhistleblowerBill in the House of Commons on 25 April 2024 that, if passed, will protect whistleblowers and:
Provide a safe, confidential reporting platform.
Investigate wrongdoing - immediate, independent, professional investigations and immediate rectification or interventions to stop harm.
Introduce meaningful fines and penalties for individuals responsible for wrongdoing or cover up.
Define ‘whistleblower’ and ‘whistleblowing’ in law.
Educate, set standards, monitor, evaluate, and improve.
Next week, Tessa Munt MP hosts a briefing session for MPs to ask questions about Hillsbourough Law and the Office of the Whistleblower.
We'd like to see as many MPs as possible attend, so that we can answer their questions about our proposal.
You'll find the briefing note that Dr Peter Harvey has shared in support here.
Watch live on Parliament TV or in person at the Commons Public Gallery.
